Mesothelioma Knowledge Base

      Mesothelioma is a form of cancer that is usually caused y exposure to asbestos.  The disease causes malignant cells to develop in the mesothelium.  The mesothelium is a protective lining that covers the body's internal organse.

      People that devlop Mesothelioma have usually inhaled asbestos particles of have in some way been exposed to asbestos dust or fibers.  Mesothlioma is not caused by smoking or any other way as far as we know today.  There is an asestos compensation fund that compensates people affected by mesothelioma.

     The symptoms of mesothelioma are:  chest wall pain, shortness of breath because of fluid between the lung and chest wall, fatigue, anemia wheezing, hoarsnes  and other symptoms such as weight loss.

     There currently is no standard protocol for testing if you have been exposed to asbestos causing  mesothelioma.

      Treating malignant mesothelioma has not been succesful and patiens have a median surival time of six months to twelve months after diagnosis of malignant mesothelioma.
